Prison gang brawl leads to death of 23 inmates

23 men were killed in a prison gang brawl in Durango, Mexico. The reason for the brawl is not indicated nor known, but the brawl was between rival drug gangs. President of the Durango State Human Rights Commission said that the fighting was "the result of what's happening outside of the prisons."It is so unfortunate that there are events such as this happening in Mexico. The violence is starting to get out of hand, and it is especially scary that this event occurred in a prison, where it is supposed to be secure. However, this may be a precedent to what could happen when the men from Guantanamo Bay are moved to the United States.

  1. I wonder if these recent brawls could be being caused by the recent overcrowding in the Mexican prison system. The Mexican Government wants to decrease crime to increase tourism to help the economy recover. Recently, their new found effort to imprison criminals seems to have had a dramatic effect. The Mexican Government might use these brawls as even more evidence of the need for U.S. funding for new prisons. Currently, the Mexican Government wants these new prisons to imprison illegal immigrants for the purpose of stopping them from illegally returning to the U.S. and causing trouble.
